Cool Website #37: WhitcombMinistries.org – Dr. John C. Whitcomb

Recently my wife and I reconnected with a dear friend from our days at Grace Theological Seminary — my favorite professor — Dr. John C. Whitcomb. We had known him from his visits to the Princeton campus back in our college days. Having been saved under the ministry of Dr. Donald Fullerton of the Princeton Evangelical Fellowship, Dr. Whitcomb graciously came back when he had opportunity to participate in different Bible and Prophecy conferences associated with both the college group and Westerly Road Church. You need to check out his current ministry as founder, president and professor of Christian Workman Schools of Theology. His life and ministry may be summed up in this quotation: “I want to be in the full-time business of finding out what God says and telling as many people as I can.” He has certainly had an active life of fulfilling that calling.
I remember him best (starting to sound like a eulogy — Dr. Whitcomb is very much alive!) for his graciousness, his sense of humor and his unique ability to make the OT come alive in his preaching and teaching ministry. He has authored a wide range of books and is considered in evangelical circles to be an expert in several strategic areas of the spiritual warfare surrounding our culture today: Biblical Creationism, Bible Prophecy, Dispensational Theology, Presuppositional Apologetics, as well as his exposition of the Old Testament. You can listen to many of his sermons for free at www.sermonaudio.com – which is an incredible resource — especially in today’s world of IPod technology (my daughter Julie teaches me more each day). Or you can visit his website for information on ordering various tapes, DVDs, CDs, etc. If you have a chance to hear him speak in person, you will be especially blessed. Just check his schedule on the website. You also might want to read some of the interesting articles he has posted. His reputation will always be that of a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. In this age of compromise, Dr. Whitcomb continues to demonstrate the balance between speaking the truth (and as would say … If we ever err, at least let it be on this side) and speaking graciously in love.
I will always remember his illustration from seminary class: If you are deathly ill and need to trust your physical well-being to one of two doctors — would you choose the one who is competent and will dispense the correct medicine … or will you opt for the one with the best bedside manners? Case closed!
I hope you take the opportunity to sit under his teaching ministry.
