Kristi Toliver and the Terps Fall to Candice Wiggins and Stanford in Elite EightPosted by Paul Apple on Apr 1, 2008 in Maryland Terps | Comments Off on Kristi Toliver and the Terps Fall to Candice Wiggins and Stanford in Elite Eight
Stanford: 98 Maryland: 87
Two high-powered offenses took it to each other in the regional final last night. The hot shooting Stanford Cardinals with 41 points from their superstor Candice Wiggins had the answer for every run that Maryland gamely made. You have to give Kristi Toliver all the props. Despite being disrespected by Coach Brenda Frese last year in the tournament (shockingly removed from the starting lineup), she came up huge all season. She saved her best game for the most important stage — scoring a career-high 35 points on unbelievable 14 for 21 shooting. Her feel for the game and leadership at the point guard position was unflappable. But it wasn’t enough to deny a Stanford team that just couldn’t miss from three point range. It’s nice to see a top level game at the collegiate level between two teams that appear to have a bunch of nice young ladies competing with good sportsmanship. This game was a fan’s delight.
