Pet Peeve #34: Broken Glass Left on the Street After Accidents

broken glass

Doesn’t it irritate you when you come up to an intersection and have to dodge a pile of broken glass left from a previous accident?  Of course the problem is Who should be responsible for cleaning this up?  Certainly the EMT responders cannot be diverted from their life-saving efforts.  You might expect that one of the police officers on the scene would have a broom and dustpan in his trunk as standard equipment … but that does not seem the case.  The tow truck driver seems oblivious . . . there is no one that really looks upon this cleanup task as their responsibility.

I guess the thought is that each passing car will carry away just enough chips of glass in its tires to spread the wreckage safely across the vast environment.  But it sure seems to me like cleaning up the scene of an accident should be a priority.

Looks like ice cubes. Did you take this picture or is it a stock photo? I hate it when people empty their ice chests out in the middle of the parking lot!
