UNION WITH CHRIST MANIFESTS ITSELF IN PRECIOUS BONDS OF FELLOWSHIP WITH THOSE WHO LABOR WITH US IN THE GOSPEL MINISTRY
INTRODUCTION:
cf. heavy emphasis on personal greetings and close fellowship – more so than any other epistle except Romans
commends those who have been especially loyal in partnership in the gospel with him; he desires that the Colossians remain loyal to the gospel message they had originally received
continues with his theme of pastoral concern for their ultimate spiritual maturity
Note how Paul personally discipled other missionaries by partnering with them in practical ministry
Also note equality of brotherhood – “There is no hierarchy in the early church.” — Stedman
I. (:7-9) MISSIONARIES MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO KEEP THEIR SUPPORTERS FULLY INFORMED THROUGH FAITHFUL MESSENGERS

Kent: “He was from the province of Asia and accompanied Paul at the close of the third missionary journey (Acts 20:4), apparently as one of the delegates taking the collection to Jerusalem. He was with Paul in Rome toward the close of the first Roman imprisonment (Eph. 6:21; Col. 4:7). Near the end of Paul’s life he was sent on missions to Crete (Tituse 3:12) and Ephesus (II Tim. 4:12).
II. (:10-14) THE INTIMACY OF PARTNERSHIP IN THE GOSPEL IS EXPRESSED VIA PERSONAL GREETINGS OF FRIENDSHIP AND ENCOURAGEMENT
